Terms of Use
Last updated: August 3, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Verbum application and related website (together, “Verbum”). By downloading, installing, or using Verbum, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Verbum.
1. Who we are
Verbum is a Bible reading app for Apple devices. It is provided as a free, offline-first product with optional in-app tips processed by Apple. For product or legal questions, contact support@verbum.app.
2. License to use Verbum
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use Verbum on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial scripture reading and study. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, or create derivative works of Verbum except as allowed by applicable law or Apple’s App Store terms.
3. Apple App Store
If you obtained Verbum from the Apple App Store, your use is also subject to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement and related App Store terms. In the event of a conflict between those Apple terms and these Terms regarding distribution through the App Store, Apple’s terms control for that distribution relationship.
4. Bible translations and content
Bundled scripture texts are public-domain or otherwise licensed for distribution as described in the app. Verbum and its licensors retain all rights in the app software, branding, design, liturgy calendar implementation, and other non-scripture materials. You may not scrape, bulk-export, or redistribute bundled translations or Verbum materials in a way that violates these Terms or third-party rights.
5. Optional tips and purchases
Core reading features are free and ad-free. Optional tips or support purchases are consumable or other products offered through Apple StoreKit. Pricing, billing, refunds, and restorations are handled by Apple under your Apple ID and App Store policies. Tips do not purchase ownership of Verbum, guaranteed translation unlocks, or any equity interest.
6. Your notes and annotations
You retain ownership of notes and highlights you create. You are responsible for their content. By using iCloud sync features, you instruct Apple CloudKit to store those annotations in your private iCloud account as described in our Privacy Policy. Do not use Verbum to store unlawful content.
7. On-device intelligence
Study features may use Apple Intelligence and local reference data on supported devices, or an on-device fallback. Outputs may be incomplete or inaccurate. Verbum is not a substitute for pastoral counsel, scholarly research, or professional advice. Always verify important conclusions against trusted sources and your own judgment.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
Verbum is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that liturgical dates, study outputs, or translations will meet your requirements.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verbum and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of Verbum. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to Verbum will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for Verbum tips in the twelve months before the claim or (b) USD $50, except where liability cannot be limited under applicable law.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse Verbum, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access to systems or accounts, or use Verbum in violation of applicable law. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Verbum. It forms part of your understanding of the product; please read it at verbum.app/privacy.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms as Verbum evolves. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using Verbum.
